SMILE - Bob Thompson Unit

A mix of original contemporary jazz and standards with one purpose in mind; music to make you smile!

This CD takes its title from the old classic “Smile” written by Charlie Chaplain, which is performed solo on the CD by pianist, Bob Thompson. “We thought people might enjoy some music that is just intended to make you feel good”, said Bob. “We hope this music does make you smile”. In addition to music written by Thompson and compositions by each of the other band members, “Smile” includes a rendition of the original theme from the TV series, “Monk”. There is also a trio version of the old standard, “The Glory of Love”.

Some of the CD’s highlights are; the beautiful melodic "This is My Love Song for You," which is subtitled "Wedding Song;" "We Need More Love Today", featuring a vocal by drummer Tim Courts; and a new version of the Brazilian flavored Doug Payne composition, "First Born".

Laura Evans – “This Is My Love Song for You”

This exciting debut CD is made up of eight original songs and new interpretations of four of Laura’s favorites including Oscar Levant’s “Blame it on my Youth” and, The Lauren Wood tune, “Fallen”. "My Song to You is Love" includes songs that reflect Laura's love and life experiences, and her journey as a musician. “The original material was created as the result of a synergy between Bob Thompson, Marc Taylor Miller, and myself,” said Laura. “This was an exciting collaboration for all of us, and we really feel that it produced some good songs.”

More Joy to the World - A Christmas Celebration with Bob Thompson

This disc is a compilation of performances from “Joy to the World with Bob Thompson”, a Christmas show recorded live at the Cultural Center in Charleston, and broadcast each year on Public Radio International, and the Voice of America. The November 28, 2007 release date is timed to coincide with the upcoming fifteenth annual edition of Joy to the World. This recording features jazzy renditions of holiday songs by the Bob Thompson Unit from the years 2000 to 2006. It also features a performance by the Appalachian Children’s Chorus with special guest vocalist Toni Lynn Washington.
